|Chef Ernest Servantes Is Grill Master Winner, Food Network’s Chopped
By Karen Graham, Senior Recruiter
Sodexo’s Executive Chef Ernest Servantes from Texas Lutheran University won the final round of Food Network’s “Chopped Grill Masters.” This was an exciting competition that took place in the Arizona desert on a Western-themed set with 16 grill champions who were selected as the best of the best. There were four opening rounds with the winner of each show selected to move to the final round.
In the final episode, Chef Ernest wowed the judges with his culinary skills and humored the audience with his quick one-liners. He’s a humble man who credits his success on a simple philosophy: Go with what you know and let your food speak for itself. This philosophy seemed to pay off in the show’s final competition rounds.
The result – Chef Ernest Servantes selected as winner as he humbly stated to the judges, “I would have never in my wildest dreams thought I would be sitting right in front of y’all … from a small-town guy, minding my own business, to here – thank you, thank you.”
What does the King of the Grill have in mind with some of his $50,000 cash prize money? Chef Ernest exclaimed, with a smile in his voice, “We’re going to Disney – after all, I promised the kids!!”
Ernest has been working as Executive Chef with Sodexo for almost five years and talks about how he got his start with Sodexo as a Chef Manager and plans to continue to stay active in the Sodexo Culinary circles while working towards a General Management position.
Sodexo chefs enjoy an exceptional work-life balance experience while building successful culinary careers. While we can’t promise that all of our chefs will win accolades on Chopped, we can promise to invest in their careers through professional development and rewarding opportunities.
