|You've Got Mail ... Sodexo Style

As companies are looking for ways to be more efficient and improve their business processes, some are looking to Sodexo for guidance in how they manage operating expenses. For example, we recently implemented a green mailroom at the State Farm insurance company offices in Atlanta, Ga. What's a "green mailroom," you ask? Green mailrooms are retrofitted with sustainable materials like countertops built from recyclable DuPont materials, aluminum posts and wood shelving; some even have mail carts that are designed from 100 percent recyclable materials. In fact, at the Atlanta State Farm office, Sodexo Materials Manager LaToya Moss designed such a recyclable mail cart for her team.
In her role, LaToya oversees the operation of the mailroom at this facility. She was recently promoted to Materials Manager after working as an hourly supervisor. I had an opportunity to speak with LaToya after reading a kudos letter by the client sent to her General Manger.
Q. What are your responsibilities as a Materials Manager?
A. At the State Farm location, I oversee three mailrooms servicing four buildings. My responsibilities are to oversee the day-to-day operations of mail services and package deliveries.
Q. What made you apply for a position with Sodexo?
A. I wanted to use my skill set and knowledge to join forces with Sodexo, a reputable company where there would be room for growth and career advancement.
Q. Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
A. I would like to be a General Manager or a Regional Trainer, helping to open various Sodexo Mail Centers for new clients, providing little to no service interruption during the transition time into the unit. I would also like to be a mentor to other Sodexo employees who have a desire to advance in their career within the company.
Q. What advice would you give to someone who is considering a career with Sodexo?
A. Sodexo is a great employer. The opportunities for advancement are limitless. I would also tell them to go in with an open mind and to try to learn as much as possible about not only their assigned position but also all of the other positions and job assignments. This way you brand yourself as being well rounded in your field and flexible to take on new responsibilities with confidence.
Q. I understand you were recently promoted. What did you do to prepare yourself for this promotion?
A. I took some courses from The Learning Center offered by Sodexo, in addition to taking a five-week webinar course to prepare me for this promotion. What's great about the Learning Center is that they offer a combination of online and in-person classes. After all of that, I also received hands-on training and mentoring from my General Manager.
